University Honors Council Bylaws
The Honors Council is a body of faculty, administrators, staff and students who provide advice and counsel to the Directors regarding academic matters pertaining to the Honors College.
- Composition of the University Honors Council
- The University Honors Council shall be composed of:
- four Honors Scholars who shall represent respectively the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior Honors Scholars;
- at least seven university faculty and staff broadly representative of the undergraduate programs of the university;
- the Director of the Office of Admissions, or a designee;
- the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, or a designee;
- the Academic Director, the Administrative Director, and the Assistant Administrative Directors;
- an alumnus of the Honors College
- The Academic Director shall serve as Chair of the University Honors Council.
- Eligibility for Membership on the University Honors Council
- An Honors Scholar must be a current member in good standing of the University Honors College.
- A faculty or staff member should have a strong record of involvement in undergraduate education at this university beyond regular classroom teaching.
- Election and Appointment of Members to the University Honors Council
- The Academic Director and the Administrative Director shall coordinate elections within the freshman class for Honors Scholars to be members of the University Honors Council. The election within the freshman class shall take place during the fall term of the freshman year. In the event that an Honors Scholars member of the University Honors Council becomes unable to complete his or her term, the Academic Director shall appoint an Honors Scholar as a replacement member to complete the unexpired term.
- The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Academic Director of the University Honors College shall jointly select faculty and staff members of the University Honors Council.
- Term of Office on the University Honors Council
- The term of office for freshman Honors Scholars elected as members of the University Honors Council shall begin immediately following their election and extend until the end of their senior year.
- The term of office for faculty or staff members shall begin immediately following their selection or at such time as the Academic Director and Vice-Provost for Education may choose.
- A faculty or staff member shall serve for a term of three years and is eligible for reappointment.
