A 3.5 UB and overall GPA

Completion of three Honors courses (or their equivalents) at the 300 level or higher (a grade of B or higher must be attained). Acceptable courses include the following:

  • Courses designated by departments as Honors Courses.
  • Graduate courses (not research, thesis, or independent study courses)
  • Contract Honors Courses, i.e. regular courses at the 300 or 400 level for which the instructor has agreed to provide an Honors component.

Breadth requirement (Participation in one or more of the following areas):

  • Completion of a second major
  • Completion of a minor
  • Community Service
  • Internship /Co-op Programs
  • Overseas Study
  • Undergraduate research (outside of your major)

Successful completion of a senior thesis or project which includes a written component.

  • Project typically will be at least the equivalent of 6 credit hrs. usually extending over 2 semesters.
  • Two UB faculty members must approve the senior thesis (project) and must submit their approval in writing to the Honors College which grants final approval.
  • A public presentation of the senior thesis/project should be made either at a department meeting, a university program, or in an another type of academic setting.
  • A senior thesis/project submitted for a departmental honors program or a joint Bachelors or Masters degree is acceptable if it meets the above requirements.
