With a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation, SEASSI will offer 20 scholarships to undergraduates to attend SEASSI 2007, an intensive summer language program offering instruction in nine languages of
Southeast Asia: Burmese, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese. Summer 2007 program will be held on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus; program dates are June 18 through August 10, 2007. Students receive two semesters of academic credit for language study at SEASSI. The scholarship provides payment of tuition, fees, and an $1,800 living stipend for the 8-week SEASSI program. A very modest travel supplement, ranging from $0 to $200 depending on the student’s travel expenses, may also be included in the scholarship. By funding intensive Southeast Asian language study for top academic undergraduate students, these awards are meant to strengthen the U.S. national capacity for Southeast Asia area specialists, and foster the development of new scholars in Southeast Asian studies.

Application deadline is Friday, April 13, 2007. Each year there are approximately 14 fellowships awarded.
All Senate fellowships are on-site in Albany, New York. Fellowships are not financial aid for academic work, on-campus or classroom study. Housing in Albany is the responsibility of the Fellow.
A Grant-in-Study Stipend is awarded — $32,000 — distributed in biweekly installments prorated from the first day to the last day of enrollment. Some benefit options are available (health, dental, vision, life insurance and the retirement program).
Applications from a wide range of interests and disciplines are welcome and encouraged. Training in the history/politics/government of New York is not required. Placements are usually to the office of an elected Member of the Senate.
While Fellows are not Senate employees, after the programs end, Fellows may sometimes be hired to full employee status in the Senate. A great number of former Fellows are today employees of the Senate, the Assembly, and the Executive Chamber, agencies, associations, and lobbying firms.

The University of Arizona has partnered with the Center for Mesoamerican Research (CIRMA) in Antigua, Guatemala, to offer a summer and semester study abroad program for undergraduate honors students.
This an academically rigorous program, with many opportunities for honors students to interact with Central American researchers and activists and engage in co-curricular activities in Guatemala. CIRMA is Central America’s premier social science center, with an extensive research library and opportunities for students to conduct independent research.
CIRMA offers personalized classes taught by Central American scholars. Classes are offered in anthropology, archeology, history, literature, and politics, as well as Spanish and Mayan languages. The program includes field trips and a colloquium series, as well as internship and volunteer opportunities.
Classes can be taken for undergraduate or undergraduate honors credit, and sometimes for graduate credit. Students receive a University of Arizona transcript, so credits are fairly easy to transfer.
