University of Michigan-Program in Biomedical Sciences

BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES PREVIEW VISITATION: October 18-20, 2007 Students who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences and traditionally under-represented in the sciences, are encouraged to consider the Biomedical Sciences PREVIEW Visitation at the University of Michigan. PREVIEW provides full funding for attendees (including travel, lodging and on-campus meals). Attendees will participate in a variety of activities and workshops involving faculty and current graduate students to learn more about U-M graduate programs, applying to graduate school, and student life.

Glamour’s 2008 Top 10 College Women Competition

Mensa admissions tests

The Western New York Chapter of Mensa will be having three admissions tests on Saturday, October 20th:

9:30am - Hamburg Library
102 Buffalo Street
Hamburg

1:00pm - Julia Boyer Reinstein Library

2:30pm - Niagara Falls Public Library
1425 Main Street
Niagara Falls

This test will qualify people for membership into Mensa, the high IQ society. There are no restrictions based on age, sex, religion, etc., only a qualifying test score on a standardized test.

The Western New York chapter is very active, with parties, dinner meetings, and movie events. There are also leadership opportunities at the local and national level.

Their website is http://wny.us.mensa.org , which includes information on how to register for the upcoming test, as well as basic info on the group.

Mensa also offers a $500 scholarship. One does not need to be a member of Mensa to apply. Any student who will be enrolled next year, either graduate or undergraduate, part-time or full-time, is eligible. Information is available at their website at http://wny.us.mensa.org

Research Basics: Getting Started in Undergraduate Research

This workshop will help students to realize the importance and impact of being involved in Undergraduate Research as well as providing helpful hints and tips in getting started.

It will take the form of a panel discussion with a couple students speaking about their experiences as well as faculty members (Drs. Zirnheld, Gregg and Bianco) providing their perspective.

New York State Senate Session Assistants Program 2008
