Washington Center for Politics & Journalism - Politics & Journalism Semester

Posted by hborden on October 5, 2007 in Academics, Career Opportunities, Internships, Uncategorized

The Politics & Journalism Semester is a non-partisan, non-ideological program to teach the next generation of political reporters about politics. From students nominated by over 50 participating universities and direct applicants from other schools, we select 12 or 13 talented college journalists for Winter/Spring (February to May) and Fall (September to December) classes each year. We have no summer program.During 16 weeks in Washington, students work full-time in major news bureaus. Twice a week, they gather for the major purpose of the program: 90-minute seminars on campaign, governance and interest group politics.

Internship/ Job - Computer Science

Posted by Nigel on October 4, 2007 in Career Opportunities, Internships

I was an honors student from 1999 to 2004 and I work for Syracuse Research Corporation (http://www.syrres.com). If you could please send out a notification to honors students with backgrounds in computer science and related research that we at SRC are looking for promising individuals for intern/co-op and full-time positions areas such as cyber and personnel security, natural language processing, social network analysis, and advanced algorithms, I would appreciate it. Those areas I mentioned are related to my field of study, but there are many other opportunities in signal analysis and more general computer science disciplines, as well.

They can forward their resumes to me at msweeney@syrres.com or to Mark Ruzekowitz (MarkR@syrres.com) (one of our HR representatives for the Information Science and Engineering division).

“ON TARGET” Undergraduate Case Competition

Posted by Jessica on October 1, 2007 in Scholarship Opportunities

“ON TARGET” Undergraduate Case Competition - The winning team will win $3,000 ($750 for each team member).

The University at Buffalo School of Management is hosting an undergraduate case competition, which is sponsored by the Target Corporation.  Last year 16 teams entered this case competition, which was held for the first time at UB.  This year, teams will be able to compete for more prize money!  The top team will win $3000 – that’s $750 for each team member.

The competition is open to all full-time UB undergraduate students; however, teams are encouraged to include at least one School of Management junior or senior.  Four-person student teams will apply business knowledge, teamwork, and presentation skills to resolve a corporate problem that spans several functional areas.

Team entries deadline is Thursday, November 8, 2007.   The case will be distributed to teams in the early spring and the five team-finalists will provide an oral presentation of their conclusions on the case on Saturday, March 1, 2008, in the Alfiero Center to a panel of Target Executives.
