Spring 2009 French and Spanish Proficiency Exams will be held on Friday, Jan 30 amd Friday, Feb 13 from 4:45-6:50 PM in Clemens 322.

Please Note: This is NOT a placement exam. The exam is intended for students with 3 or more years of high school French or Spanish. It tests elementary and intermediate level proficiency.
There are several intern abroad opportunities available through The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars. The following summer 2009 programs allow students to combine study abroad with a substantive internship:
The Washington, D.C. – London Program (now in its third year)
The Washington, D.C. – Oxford Program (new in 2009)
The Washington, D.C. – Sydney Program (new in 2009)
Designed as a seminar in the nation’s capital followed by an internship placement with programming and rigorous academic study in one of the above cities, each program will help students gain a valuable comparative understanding of culture and professional life – an important asset in today’s global workforce. The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a competitive national program that provides college graduates the opportunity to work in Washington, DC, with a public-interest organization focusing on international security issues. The program has awarded 115 Fellowships since its inception in 1987. The fellowship is offered twice yearly, in the spring and fall. It lasts from six to nine months and provides a stipend, health insurance, and travel costs to Washington. The Scoville Fellowship does not award grant or scholarship money to students.
Scoville Fellows may undertake a variety of activities, including research, writing, and advocacy in support of the goals of their host organization and may attend coalition meetings, policy briefings, and Congressional hearings. They have written fact sheets, letters to the editor, op-eds, magazine articles, briefing books and reports, organized talks and conferences, and been interviewed as experts by the media. Many former Scoville Fellows work for U.S. and international NGOs, the Federal Government, and academia, or attend graduate school in political science or international relations, following their fellowships.
