Each year, on a rotating basis, UB, University of Rochester & SUNY Upstate (Syracuse) host an MD/PhD Conference. The conference will be held on May 3rd in Rochester. This year, invitation will be extended to undergraduates and high school students for a concurrent conference entitled: Transforming Tomorrow’s Thinkers (T3): Promoting the Path of Medical Research. The goal of T3 is to promote awareness about MD/PhD training among undergraduate and high school students.

The Office of the Provost currently has one vacancy for the position of Student Assistant.
The duties and responsibilities of the student assistant include phone coverage for the Office of the Provost, transferring calls as appropriate; filing; photocopying; scanning files; occasional use of the internet for special projects; assisting with preparation and cleanup of meetings; stocking the kitchen and supply areas.
We are looking for an individual who would be available to work over breaks and during the summer months as well as during the academic year. During the academic year, the student assistant hours are generally 10 – 15 hours per week.

The Honors College is currently looking for students who have completed Honors Colloquium with a grade of A- or better and who are interested in serving as a teaching assistant/peer mentor for the Fall 2008 Freshmen Honors Colloquium. TAs/Peer Mentors work closely with the freshmen on group projects and will assist the directors in the development and implementation of the course. These students have an extremely positive impact on the students and the course. They also can earn 2 or 3 credits of Undergraduate Supervised Teaching. Teaching assistants/Peer Mentors must be available for BOTH one section of Colloquium:
Mondays from 1-2:50 p.m.
Mondays from 3-4:50 p.m.
Wednesdays from 1 to 2:50 p.m.
Wednesdays from 3 to 4:50 p.m.
AND for one of the TA meetings (either Mondays at 4 p.m. or Wednesdays at 4 p.m.). If you are interested in serving as a TA/Peer Mentor, please contact Jessica at jdudek@buffalo.edu and indicate your Colloquium day preference and TA meeting day preference.
Momentive Performance Materials will be on campus for the Spring Career Fair on Thursday, February 28, 2008 and will be interviewing for full time positions for May 2008 graduates on Friday, February 29, 2008. On Friday, March 28th, the Office of Admissions will be sponsoring a bus to bring prospective students to UB from the Metropolitan New York City area. These students are being brought up to participate in Saturday’s Spring Open House. The Honors office is looking for volunteers to host these student visitors overnight. Volunteers will meet the students at 5:30pm for a catered dinner (from an off campus restaurant named My Tomato Pie) and an activity sponsored by the Office of Admissions. At approximately 8:30pm, you will be free to show your student around the University.
For students that would be willing to serve as hosts, the Office of Admissions will provide a mattress and linens for your guests. If you are interested please submit your name, person number, and academic area of interest to Erik D’Aquino at edaquino@buffalo.edu.
Please respond as soon as possible so that we can get an accuratecount of how many student guests we can accommodate.
Please remember that all First and Second Year students are required to meet with their Honors Advisor to discuss courses for Fall 2008 and to chat about Honors requirements such as Honors Experiences. You will need to meet with your Honors advisor by Mar. 14th (keep in mind that Spring Break is March 10 to 14th) in order to maintain your early registration privileges for the Fall 2008 semester. Please call the office at 645-3020 to schedule a 30 minute appointment. If you believe that you will need additional time, because you are changing majors or have other important issues to discuss, we strongly encourage you to ask whoever is making the appointment to book a 60 minute time slot for you.
First Year Students are expected to meet with a mentor from their major this semester. You should have received a “Mentor Student Planning Session” which needs to be signed and returned to our office by March 14th.
No mentor meeting requirement exists for Sophomores.
The registration dates for all Honors Students is March 17th to 19th.
The University Honors College is looking for Tour Guides for the Spring 2008 semester. If you would like to share your knowledge of UB and your enthusiasm for the Honors College please send your class schedule to Erik D’Aquino in the Honors Office. Tours are given at times between 10am and noon on Mondays through Fridays.
Tours consist of the Academic Spine and the Governors Residence Complex. There will be training sessions that will be able to prepare you for giving tours.
PLEASE NOTE: We encourage all students that are interested to apply; even if you do not reside within the Governors Residence Complex, so all students regardless of whether you live in Governors, Ellicott, or off campus can give tours.

The Office of Residence Life, in conjunction with the Honors College, is pleased to announce that they are accepting applications for participants in the Shared Interest Housing (SIH) Honors Corps in Governors Complex. This opportunity is open to students in good standing in both the Honors College and within Residence Life who are interested in playing an active role in the Honors community and in the Residence Life community. Participants are expected to be available to tutor peers for 2 to 4 hours per week as well as collaborate in the planning and implementation 6 educational and community service initiatives per semester. This opportunity is available to all majors.
Accepted participants for this voluntary leadership opportunity will be assigned to a desirable first-floor suite in the Governors Complex, without taking part in the housing lottery process.
Applications will be available January 16th at the Honors College office at 214 Talbert Hall and are due by February 1st to Nigel Marriner.
