Business Model Competition

Better Business Studios and SCORE are teaming up to provide young student entrepreneurs with the chance to win more than $5,000.00 toward starting their own business or organization. The name of the event is Start Buffalo, and participating groups/individuals will present self-designed business plans to the judges, who include local business members and UB faculty. The group with the most well-designed business model will receive a comprehensive package including web development, marketing assistance, PR support, and more. Many local businesses and organizations will be represented, so the night will also serve as a space for more established Buffalonians to meet fresh local talent.
WHAT: Start Buffalo (www.startbuffalo.org) will bring together generations of Buffalonians to celebrate the achievements of both the young and the old. While the evening will highlight the ideas presented by young entrepreneurs, the plans will be critiqued through the lens of a more experienced panel. The convergence will foster a dialogue among students and reputable leaders in education, business, and non-profits in WNY. This interaction will satisfy one of SCORE’s basic tenets: to promote the support and growth of small businesses nationwide.

WHERE: Buffalo Marriott Niagara 1340 Millersport Highway, Amherst, NY. Near UB.
WHY: Present economic conditions make it difficult for entrepreneurs to locate funds to enact their business plans. While money is valuable, experienced consultation is an integral part of any business’s initial success. Start Buffalo will provide a venue for experienced individuals to identify new talent and to see where the future of business may be headed. It will also give entrepreneurs from UB the chance to heed the advice of more established community members and to showcase their entrepreneurial talent.
