Partners in the Parks

Partners in the Parks is a new program developed in cooperation with the National Parks Service offering participants the opportunity to experience and appreciate the unique natural treasures that make up America*s national park system.
Seven projects are planned for 2008.  Each will be hosted by a select Honors program working in partnership with a regional national park to offer students and faculty unprecedented access and insights into the park through an extended 5-6 day excursion.  Projects will include educational and recreational seminars led by expert faculty and NPS rangers specifically designed to take advantage of the unique resources within each park.

Last year*s pilot project at Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah was a roaring success.  Students experienced a full range of park activities including administration, tourism, back country camping, instructional seminars, and outdoor adventures.  Faculty and park rangers led participants in a wide range of educational and recreational activities in both group and individual settings.
