Admission to the Honors College is based on high school performance and standardized test scores. To be competitive for consideration, applicants should present an unweighted high school average of 93 and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1300 or ACT score of 29.

Applicants presenting these credentials will also be considered competitive applicants for a merit based scholarship. Notification will be included with the offer of university admission. Students from outside New York State may receive a supplemental award to defray the cost of out-of-state tuition.

Application

To be considered for admission to Honors, your university application must be on file in the Undergraduate Admissions office by December 31. Offers of admission to the Honors College are made in February.

The Honors College offers two distinct scholarship awards: Presidential Scholarships and Performing and Creative Arts Scholarships.

The Presidential Scholarship

UB’s top entering freshmen are awarded Presidential Scholarships. This scholarship covers full tuition, fees, housing, board, books, travel, and other school-related expenses for four years of undergraduate study. To be considered for this award, students must show outstanding academic merit with a minimum unweighted high school average of 95 and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of at least 1470. Students who receive Presidential Scholarships are automatically admitted to the Honors College and must maintain good standing within the program to keep their scholarship.

A separate application is required for this scholarship in addition to the general SUNY application and is available from the Honor’s Office. Contact Erik D’Aquino to request an application.

Performing and Creative Arts Scholarships

Students interested in majoring in Theatre (Performance, Technical, Design, Playwriting, or Music Theatre), Visual Studies (Art), Dance, Media Study or Music including Music Performance are invited to apply for a Performing and Creative Arts Scholarship. Scholarships of $3,000 per year for four years are awarded and students must maintain a major in one of the five designated areas. Performing and Creative Arts Honors Scholars receive all the special privileges accorded to Honors Scholars.

The criteria for consideration include outstanding artistic merit, a minimum unweighted high school average of 90, a minimum combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1230 or an ACT score of 28, an audition or portfolio review and a personal interview. A separate Performing and Creative Arts Scholarship application is required in addition to the SUNY general admissions application. Be sure to read the above information carefully as each department has specific additional application requirements. These scholarships are awarded in March.
