As an Honors Scholar, the possibilities are endless. We provide an array of unique opportunities for students to get involved on and off campus.
Scholarship Recipients: Our students receive nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships including the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, Harry S. Truman Scholarship, Rhodes Scholarship, Fullbright Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship and more! To learn more about some of our prestigious scholarship award winners, check out our Fellowships and Scholarships website. In 2012, 14 out of 15 students who received the SUNY Chancellors highest award undergraduate award for excellence were from the UB Honors College.
Honors Student Council: The Honors Student Council, or HSC, strives to foster a close-knit community of UB Honors Scholars. All scholars in the Honors College are by default members of HSC and encouraged to participate in any HSC meetings and events.
Greiner Hall Shared Interest Housing: Through shared service, social activities and academic courses, Greiner Shared Interest Housing (SIH) aims to foster a sense of community and engagement amongst Honors sophomores over the course of an academic year. In addition to specially designed social events and two common days of service, these sophomores contribute their time and talents to diverse agencies such as University Heights Tool Library, Journey's End, Buffalo City Mission, Heritage Centers, Child and Adolescent Treatment Services, Westside Ministries and Valley Community Center.
Colloquium Teaching Assistants: Honors scholars have the opportunity to earn credit towards their Honors experiences by teaching a Colloquium course as early as their sophomore year. Each year, the Honors College solicits outstanding upper-class students to apply to be Honors Teaching Assistants for HON 102: Freshmen Honors Colloquium. In addition to attending training sessions, Teaching Assistants lead course discussions, participate in weekly meetings, serve as a mentor to students, grade assignments, provide feedback and assistance to the course instructor, maintain office hours, and act as a liaison between students and community partners.
