How to Apply

The Honors College seeks to recruit an incoming class of 350 scholars. Successful applicants typically represent the top 10% of incoming freshmen. The Honors College aims to build a community that is diverse in its talents, interests and background. Students who are intellectually curious, demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement, have shown resilience in the face of adversity and who take ownership of their education are excellent matches.

We welcome applications from all students who are interested in becoming a part of, and contributing to, our Honors College community. Interested students must apply for admission to the University at Buffalo. Students submitting the Common Application can apply to the Honors College in the Academics section. Students applying with the State University of New York (SUNY) Application should complete the Honors College supplemental application.

To be considered for a merit scholarship, your general application for admission to the University at Buffalo (either SUNY or Common Application) must be on file and complete (including all supplemental materials) by Dec. 8, 2023.

Offers of admission to the Honors College are made on a rolling basis. Preference is given to applications received by Dec. 8, 2023.

Current UB students or students who are transferring to the University can be admitted to the Honors College through the Advanced Honors Program.
